DIY: Target Bar Towel Pillow Case

We LOOOOOVE a good holiday pillow, but storing those suckers is a huge pain! Slip covers are 100% the way to go, because you can fold them right up and store them until you need them again next year! Follow the directions below to turn this set of $3 Target bar towels into a super festive Halloween pillow slip cover that you can use year after year.

For this project, you will need:

- a sewing machine

- 2 bar towels (we got our set for $3 from Target Dollar Spot)!

- ribbon

- yarn (optional)

First, place your towels on a flat surface, wrong sides together. Since the tea towels are hemmed (i.e., no raw edges), I chose to sew right sides together to create a border (rather than stitching a typical seam).

Next, you'll want to pin your ribbon. I chose to put the ribbon on the bottom, but I've seen lots of cute pillows with the ties on the top! We cut our ribbon to about 8" long.

Next, pin the ribbon strips to the back side, making sure they match up with the ribbons on the front.

Sew the ribbons in place. Be sure to use a strong stitch, you don't want your ribbons pulling off. And don't forget to burn the ends (this will prevent the ribbon from fraying).

Next, pin the two towels (right sides together) along the remaining three edges and sew.

Throw a pillow inside and tie the ribbons to secure it closed.

Optional yarn tassel instructions below:

Wrap yarn around a piece of cardboard, and tie at the the top.

Slip the yarn off the cardboard and cut the bottom. Tie a piece of yarn around the top, and trim the uneven pieces. Repeat (you'll need four).

Using a sewing needle and thread, attach the tassels to the corners of the pillow. Toss on the couch and enjoy!
