We've got a serious sweet spot for Audrey, so this costume was a must! Follow the simple step-by-step instructions below to create this adorable Holly Golightly costume for Halloween OR your next Breakfast... at the Kitchen Table.
You will need:
- 1 sheet teal felt - Joanns $0.49
- gold sequin trim - Dollar Tree $1.00
- gold (or yellow) feathers - Dollar Tree $1.00
- pink embroidery thread - Joanns $1.00
- ribbon - Joanns $1.00
- white button up Oxford shirt - we had one on on hand, but if you don't, you can pick one up at your local thrift store for a buck or two!
If you own an eye mask, use it as a template to cut your felt. If not, just eyeball it! If you fold it in half, you'll end up with two symmetrical sides (and that's really all that matters).
Next, using hot glue or fabric glue adhesive, attach your gold sequin trim. We found ours for $1.00 at Dollar Tree, but you can pick some up from your favorite craft or fabric store.
Next, cut two half circles for the eyelids.
Attach feathers (for lashes) and glue a strip of felt to hold them in place.
Glue the eyelids onto the mask using hot glue or adhesive. Do not glue the eyelids on flat. Be sure to place your finger or a small object underneath while gluing to give the eyelids a 3 dimensional appearance.
Attach sequin trim to the arches of the eyelids.
Add sequin trim for eyebrows.
Attach ribbon to the sides (or elastic if you have some on hand), and you're all set!
In the movie, Holly wears earplugs with tassels. We chose to make tassel earrings instead. Here's how:
1. Wrap your embroidery thread around three fingers.
2. Next, loop around the thread at the top and tie in a knot.
3. Cut the untied side.
4. Attach to earring hooks.
A doesn't have her ears pierced, so we just hooked the tassel earrings on the top of her ears. You can also attach your tassels to clip ons.
Best thing about this costume... after your kid wears it, you'll have a new eye mask! So go ahead, take a snooze. You deserve it!
