A Magical Mermaid Birthday Party

We dove deep under the sea and celebrated E's 5th birthday with a magical mermaid splash!

We used mermaid tableware from Target and decorated the party with DIY paper lantern jellyfish and ceramic mermaid tails found at Dollar Tree.

Using tissue paper, cut a 10" circle. Next, starting on the outside of the circle, begin cutting in a spiral until you've hit the center of the circle. Attach the spiral to a paper lantern and voila! You have a jellyfish! You can cut multiple sheets at one time, just be sure to unravel the spiral gently to prevent tearing.

We had a "save the sea creatures" station. To do this activity, fill balloons with water and sea creatures, and freeze overnight. Then, remove the ice balls from the balloons and have kids melt the ice using colored rock salt and warm water. If you have difficulty removing the balloon run under hot water for a couple of seconds first and it will slide right off.

We also had Mermaids swimming in ocean colored Orbies for some sensory goodness. Adults enjoyed this one too!

Waterballoons...

A coloring table...

And even a Mermaid make-over station!

Hotdogs, pasta, potato salad, fruit and cupcakes were served to hungry sea urchins. Plates, straws, and napkins were all from Target.

And a massive seahorse piñata from Casa De Piñatas was filled to the brim!

E's cupcake was topped with a mermaid tail candle for extra special birthday wishes!

Mini-mermaids and mermen were sent home with Orbies, pearls, tattoos and mermaid figurines in some flippin' awesome treat bags.

And the birthday girl even smiled for (a few) family pictures! The photo bombing mermaid balloon friends also had to make an appearance.

All in all, it was a splashing success! Happy 5th Birthday, E!
