5 Simple Items to Create a "Book Nook" for Your Little Reader

We all know how important reading is for our kids, and having a designated space to do it makes it even more fun!

But you don't need to spend a fortune or even have a ton of room to create an inviting "book nook" for your little one. Whether you have a designated nook, a closet or even just a corner in a room, these 5 SIMPLE ITEMS can easily transform your space into a charming reading retreat for your little reader.

1. Rug - A rug will help to designate the space, especially if the nook is in a shared area like a living room or bedroom. It doesn't have to be huge, but make it fun. It will help lure your little reader in!

2. Comfy Chair or Beanbag - the keyword is "comfy." If you want your little one to spend some time reading, give him a comfy place to lounge and he'll be guaranteed to stay put. I made W's pyramid style beanbag (to look like this one) using shibori fabric from JoAnn Fabric & Crafts and beanbag filler from Amazon. I've linked some other cute options (at various price points) below.

3. Wall Shelves - this is a necessity. There are all different types on the market now, and it really doesn't matter which one you choose, but I've found that by displaying books outward on a wall shelf (instead of on a traditional bookshelf), the books are more accessible and just beg to be picked up and opened! We used these clear acrylic shelves in our nook (and they've held up so well), but Ikea, Target and Amazon all sell wall shelf options in various colors and styles.

4. Garland and/or Mobile - this again designates the space and provides a bit of ambiance, an invitation to sit and stay a while.

5. Twinkle Lights - because... well, twinkle lights are magic. Add them to your book nook for an extra special sparkle. You won't be sorry.

Oh... and don't forget the BOOKS! Happy reading, friends.
